The Guardians Association 37th Annual Dinner Dance will honor our President James Huntley with the Guardians Association “Achievement Award.”  The event takes place Friday March 4th at the El Caribe Country Club.

During a standing room only general membership meeting PBA President Pat Lynch and his executives addressed the union membership.

Local 1182held their Annual Valentine’s Dinner and Dance at Cordon Bleu on Saturday February 13, 2010.

Musical entertainment was provided by the World Famous DJ team of Teddy Ted and Special K.

The musical guest for the evening was Ms. Honey LaRochelle

We also had a special performance from HBO DefJam comedy artist A.G. White who had all of the guests laughing out loud (LOL).

Assaulting a Traffic Agent is a serious crime and is now treated as a felony. For decades, New York City’s Enforcement Agents have faced a major problem of on-the-job assault and harassment without felony protection. Since 1986, New York City’s Traffic Enforcement Agents have lobbied for a New York State felony bill that would provide protection for the members of CWA Local 1182. Finally on July 22, 2008 this important legislation became law.

District Attorney Charles Hynes has always taken a leadership role in the enforcement of laws that protect the public and ensure that our streets and neighborhoods are safe. The members of CWA Local 1182, Traffic and Sanitation Enforcement Agents of New York City are grateful for the support and cooperation received by the Brooklyn District Attorney.

To assist with getting the message out that assaults on Uniform Traffic Agents will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,  Local 1182 and Local 983 have joined together on a joint advertising campaign that is running in the Borough of Brooklyn.  The media campaign is using a combination of Cable TV, newspapers, a mobile truck that is riding around Brooklyn and movie theaters.

The mobile truck campaign began the same day as the press conference and toured the streets of Brooklyn through Saturday March 28th.

Beginning on Wednesday April 1st Cablevison in Brooklyn will be showing this 30 second commercial about the Felony Assault law on the following cable TV channels:

NY1 – Channel 12 – CNN – TNT – USA and Spike.  The commercial will air anytime from 6:00am to midnight.

The executive board of CWA Local 1182 was sworn in on January 28, 2009 inside the Red Room at City Hall.  The swearing in ceremony was overseen by Joe Diesso of Communication Workers of America.

A number of City Council members stopped by to congratulate the executive board and the City Comptroller, Bill Thompson performed a celebratory swearing in ceremony for president James Huntley & the executive board.

Last week several media outlets have made a big deal about a Brooklyn TEA who ticketed a SUV that was double parked and belonged to a person dressed as Santa.

Here is the response from your union president, James Huntley that appeared in the NY Daily News but did not get the same national attention as when the story was 1st released. NY Daily News.

On July 23, 2008 on the steps of City Hall, Local 1182 made history with the announcement of the Felony Assault Bill becoming law in New York State.  Standing on the steps of City Hall was union president james Huntley and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

While Commissioner Kelly and President Huntley explained to the media what the felony bill means for Traffic Enforcement Agents a truck was parked in front of City Hall with a large billboard that explained to the citizens of New York that it’s better to strike a ticket “Not Guilty” than a Uniform Traffic Enforcement Agent.

The mobile truck spent the week traveling throughtout the five boroughs of New York, stopping at TEA commands in each of the boroughs.  Along with the mobile truck the union also purchased 1/2 page ads in 28 community publications.

President Huntley also appeared on NY1 News and discussed why it took so long for the felony assault bill to become law.
