Assaulting a Sanitation Enforcement Agent Must be a Felony Pass A.9186 and S.6079

Sanitation Agents write summones for illegally dumping of garbageSanitation Enforcement Agents fill an important role in keeping the City clean and running smoothly. They inspect commercial and residential establishments, streets and sidewalks, and are responsible for enforcement of certain laws, rules and regulations. They are there to prepare and issue summonses for certain violations of the New York City Health and Administrative Codes, Public Health Law (Canine Waste), Vehicle and Traffic Laws, and Traffic Regulations. This active, and multi-faceted job usually requires Agents to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, and patrol on foot for long periods of time. While they help keep the city safe, they are also put on a vulnerable position.

Like other City workers that spend their days out on the streets, interacting with the public, Sanitation Enforcement Agents can fall victim to violence and various forms of attacl, and have been targeted because of the job they perform. NYC Uniform Sanitation Enforcement Agents deserve the same protection as other Uniformed Enforcement Agents, which is why members and supporters of CWA Local 1182 are telling New York State politicians to pass the Sanitation Felony Assault Bill, and give Sanitation Enforcement Agents the respect and security they deserve.
